Historic Homestead Hunt set for April 14

Homestead - Now And Then - Historic Homestead HuntGet ready for the Historic Homestead Hunt. From the folks that bring you the annual Redland Riot Road Rallye, here is a whimsical urban adventure with a focus on local history, set for Saturday, April 14 in downtown Homestead, Florida.

The Historic Homestead Hunt takes place from 11am to 2pm along the charming main street section of Homestead, challenging teams to find the answers to clues relating to a bygone era. Each registered team receives a package of maps and instructions, with a series of cryptic questions to be answered along the way. The team that gets the most correct answers wins a generous prize package from local merchants.

“While much of Miami-Dade County is known for rapid growth and development over the past century, the downtown section of Homestead has somehow managed to retain it’s rustic charm and small-town ambience,” said event organizer Robert Burr, a descendant of a pioneer South Florida family.

Small Town Charm

“A short walk around main street offers a glimpse of many legacy buildings, businesses and echoes of our recent past that formed the foundations of this small rural town. Participants in the Historic Homestead Hunt enjoy a wonderful adventure that celebrates Homestead’s mission to preserve their historic resources while appreciating the rural charm and family-friendly atmosphere that defines the area.”

Among the featured stops along the way are the Lily Lawrence Bow library building, the Hotel Redland, the historic City Hall Museum, the First Baptist Church and the Seminole Theatre.
