The water park officially opens on Wednesday, April 10, 2019. Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department and Miami-Dade County District 8 Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava will officially dedicate and cut the ribbon at 4:30pm.

The 8.61-acre South Dade Park also features basketball courts, a playground, a fitness zone, a skate park, soccer mini-pitches and a walkway, as well as a community meeting room. Miami-Dade Parks Fit2Play after-school and out-of-school/seasonal camps for kids and the Active Older Adults program are also offered at this site.

“This new aquatic complex is going to be a favorite family gathering spot in South Dade,” said Commissioner Levine Cava. “Here residents and their children can enjoy healthy, safe pool recreation, with exciting options that include Learn2Swim, water exercise classes, and splash and play activities. And, as the summer approaches, this pool will certainly help everyone escape the heat. However, I urge parents, before they let their children step into the water, make sure they know how to swim. If they haven’t had swim lessons, please sign them up today.”

“I am so pleased to see the new South Dade Park Aquatic Center and Helen Sands Pool open for business. What a great addition this is to this park,” said Maria I. Nardi, Miami-Dade Parks Director. “Miami-Dade Parks is working to develop more top-grade pool facilities like this throughout the parks system as part of its community-wide efforts to get every child water ready, with swim lessons.”

Summer Hours are seven days a week from 1 to 5pm. Non-Summer Hours are Monday through Friday from 4 to 7pm, Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5pm.

The price of admission is $3, or $2 for seniors. Call the pool office for complete details: 305-248-1386.

  1. What are the days and hours of operation? We’d like to take our daughter tomorrow (5/28) to celebrate her kinder graduation. Thanks

    1. Always click on the link to the venue for details.

Summer hours are 1 to 7 on Saturdays, as I recall. Perhaps 4 to 7 weekdays.

    1. I believe Helen Sands was a beloved swim instructor. It would be nice if the pool that bears her name had some sort of plaque with more information about how and why it came to be named for her.
