The Sunset Folk Music Series closes out the summer on Saturday, Aug. 28 with folk musician, Grant Livingston and Park Ranger storyteller Gary Bremen. Celebrate a century of history guided by Gary's own personal tales of national parks as Grant plays folk songs of the times as well as his own original melodies -- accompanied by the beautiful setting that is Castellow Hammock Park. Don't forget to bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and a picnic basket with your favorite treats. The cost is $5 per person; ages 10 and under are free. More details.

Mark your calendar for the final MuSe event of the season at the Seminole Theatre, hosted by the Homestead Center For The Arts featuring Miami-based singer/songwriter/poet Alexa Lash, with a voice often referred to as soulful, unique and powerful. Fans of the legendary Main Street Café in Homestead will apreciate this new generation of gifted musical storytellers. Tickets are only $5 thanks to a grant from the Miami-Dade Department of Cultural Affairs. The live performance will be streamed in real time on HCA Facebook, among other viewing options. Spend the afternoon and early evening at Homestead City Hall Plaza for the annual Homestead Main Street Fiesta USA celebration. Featuring the ever-popular Club Hipico and their amazing horses. Local vendors wil be on hand. Ballet Folklorico dancers and others will perform an array of cultural performances to celebrate the wonderful diversity of our community.

The Seminole Theatre will be the venue for Celebration of America's Music: From Plymouth Rock to Rock & Roll -- an entertaining and educational multimedia performance for all ages presented by Ballad Of America. Take a journey through time and celebrate the multicultural nature of the music of the United States. Matthew Sabatella and the Rambling String Band perform the songs and tell the story that connects traditional folk music, spirituals, fiddle tunes, Appalachian music, ragtime, blues, rhythm and blues, jazz, country, bluegrass, and rock & roll. Tamiami International Orchid Festival

Experience South Florida's most diverse orchid show on the first weekend in October at the Fruit & Spice Park -- a nationally and internationally recognized orchid event -- and the largest orchid show in the United States. At the Tamiami International Orchid Festival, attendees can purchase beautiful yet affordable orchids, see rare orchids in beautiful exhibits, and learn more about orchids in one of the festival’s many free classes and workshops.
