Lamplighters Writers' Group - Dramatic Curation

What if Works is offering a free, public workshop at the Homestead Cybrarium, where Lamplighters authors will be on hand to share their experiences with the short story form while actors demonstrate an approach to "dramatic curation." A performance of "I Am Elizabeth," one of the seven works in the production focusing on the life of Elizabeth Keckley, dressmaker to Mary Ann Todd Lincoln, will be followed by a presentation about 19th-century black American history by actor/teacher Ozzie Quintana. Learn how to make rich organic soil from leaves, branches, paper plates and other recyclable materials through a process called composting. Join University of Florida Master Gardeners for a step-by-step workshop on making your own soil. Presented by UF/Miami-Dade Cooperative Extension Service. Space is limited for this online event. Following the presentation, naturalist guides will take participants into the park to search for some nocturnal residents, such as bats and owls. The cost is $6 per person.

Bring the family to the 17 acre Redland Equestrian Center for Farm and Horse Tours, or Horseback Riding Tours of the Redland, open at 10am everyday by pre-paid reservation. Kids will love a day outside on the farm with Pony and Horse Lead Rides, petting farm, oak tree hammock and lychee grove. Reserve your Agricultural Learning Events for School, Company or Birthday. Enjoy Photography Session with horses and other animals. The largest and oldest equestrian center in the area, it's a great place for Horse Boarding and Training, since 1999. MDC Student Success Center Launched

The City of Homestead and Miami Dade College (MDC) broke ground to mark the start of the construction of the much anticipated MDC Student Success Center. The four-story, 60,000-square-foot Student Success Center will serve as a multipurpose hub aimed at better serving the community, including the Dean of Student Services office, campus bookstore, classrooms, computer labs, and conference center with an art gallery that will showcase student and community art exhibitions.
