Miami Blue Butterfly Traveling Exhibit

Saturday, April 17 at Castellow Hammock
Miami Blue Butterfly Traveling Exhibit

The Miami blue butterfly is unique to South Florida and has a wingspan about the width of a thumb. Once common in the region, populations drastically declined in the ‘80s and ‘90s due to development of its coastal habitat. Presented by Florida Museum of Natural History and University of Florida, the exhibit will be open at Castellow Hammock Park and Nature Center beginning April 17. Castellow Hammock is a 112-acre park and preserve that contains a mature tropical hardwood forest with a half-mile self-guided nature trail. The park was named in honor of James S. Castellow, a citrus farmer who homesteaded the property in the early 1900s. View the Blue Butterfly video on YouTube. http://www.miamidade.gov/parks/castello-hammock.asp
