Friday, September 11 is Patriot Day, remembering the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, when nearly 3,000 people died in the attacks. The economic, cultural and emotional impact was immense. Saturday, September 12 is Chocolate Milkshake Day, an opportunity to indulge and appreciate one of life's great pleasures. Sunday, September 13, the first Sunday in September after Labor Day, is National Grandparents Day, an opportunity to honor all grandparents through a range of activities such as gift-giving, card-giving, and for children to invite their grandparents to school for a day where they participate in special lessons or special assembly programs. Tuesday, September 15 is National Double Cheeseburger Day, recognizing a double delicious iconic American sandwich. Wednesday, September 16 is National Guacamole Day, celebrating that luscious avocado dip recipe that dates back to the 14th-century Aztec Empire in Mexico. Avocado seeds were first found in the Tehuacan Valley of Mexico around 9,000 years ago. Thursday, September 17 is Constitution Day and Citizenship Day, a time to reflect on the noble values embedded in our national Constitution, and the solemn obligations we hold as United States citizens. Friday, September 18, the third Friday in September, is National POW/MIA Recognition Day as we pause to remember the sacrifices and service of those who were prisoners of war (POW), as well as those who are missing in action (MIA), and their families. On Sunday, September 20, we recognize National Pepperoni Pizza Day, celebrating the most popular pizza ever created, topped with thin slices of spicy pepperoni, an American variety of dry-cured salami made from pork and beef, heavily seasoned with paprika, garlic, and chili peppers for a bold, fiery kick. |

Saturday, September 12 from 10am to 4pm High Tide Low Tide Exhibition at Deering Estate Rooted in both Miami’s tidal geography and Mette Tommerup’s Scandinavian heritage, Tommerup’s practice draws from a Nordic tradition of reduction – an elemental paring down that foregrounds atmosphere, light, and spatial perception over representation. Ocean, earth, dusk, and the auroral phenomena of the northern lights operate not as imagery but as structural conditions: forces that dissolve boundaries, destabilize orientation, and expand the field of painting beyond the wall. Through these immersive spatial propositions, she positions painting as a phenomenological encounter-an embodied threshold where architecture, landscape, and viewer converge. Get details online. |
