Travel with performers on a journey inspired by the land and informed by the dancer’s experience in the Everglades sawgrass, through a landscape created by their movements. The performance at South Miami Dade Cultural Arts Center will include narration by award-winning South Florida actor, Barbara Sloan, interwoven with real life stories from Seminole Nation citizen Samuel Tommie.
Everglades Imprint is inspired by Dale Andree’s time at Everglades National Park during her fellowship through Artist In Residence In Everglades (AIRIE). This multi-dimensional performance will bring audiences closer to the wilderness bordering their neighborhoods and features dance, live music, projections and poetry with musical performances by Ray Robinson and Samuel Tommie, a sound installation by Gustavo Matamoros, and poetic narration by Barbara Sloan.
The sound installation by Gustavo Matamoros will feature a collage of Everglades sounds collected during his AIRIE residency, while Tommie will bring in the elegance of hidden mysteries with the musical layering of his flute and Ray Robinson will create additional texture through percussive surprises.
Photographer and videographer Miana Jun, who joined Andree during her AIRIE residency, will present the multi-layered magic of the Everglades in her photographs and video display.
Everglades Imprint performances and projections will transform of the Lab Theater into a world that reflects the artists’ discovery of this fragile, wild ecosystem — the Everglades — that borders our city.
